Arsenal will have to pull out all the stops to sign Martin Odegaard it seems, with Real Madrid intent on keeping the Norwegian midfielder.

That is according to AS, who claim Madrid’s stance is now clear in that they won’t sell Odegaard to the Gunners.

Odegaard has impressed since moving to The Emirates and is expected to be a player Mikel Arteta and Edu pursue in the summer. However, despite reports to the contrary previously, AS now claim Madrid have dug their heels and will not sell Odegaard.

Los Blancos apparently see Odegaard as the ideal player to help them next season. Previously, it has been claimed a lot could depend on the future of Zinedine Zidane, but it seems the club has made the decision to keep Odegaard, regardless.

It means Arsenal could have a lot of work to do if they do intend on getting Odegaard. Madrid’s stance will mean they can drive the price up, while the Gunners are already said to be considering alternatives. Julian Brandt and Sander Berge, just two of the names mentioned.

TBR View: Arsenal face paying over the odds for Odegaard here, maybe best to walk away

For all the talent Odegaard has and what he’s brought to Arsenal, the Gunners don’t need to go shelling out mammoth sums here.

Yes, he’s a good midfielder but then there are others available. Brandt, for example, would be a cheaper and just as effective alternative.

If Madrid demand anything upwards of £30m here, then Arsenal should walk away. They need to wise in the market this summer, and Odegaard should only be signed if it suits the Gunners financially.
