Report: Real Madrid eye Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti
Real Madrid are interested in Everton boss Carlo Ancelotti, with the Sunday Mirror (15/6; page 74) reporting that Zinedine Zidane is looking set to leave this summer.
Zidane’s future in his second spell at the Bernabeu is uncertain. The report claims that there is a growing belief that the Frenchman will leave Los Blancos at the end of the campaign.
And according to the Sunday Mirror (15/6; page 74), Ancelotti is one of the names on their radar should Zidane leave. It is also claimed that Max Allegri is a target.
Ancelotti holds a special place in Real Madrid hearts after delivering La Decima in 2014. So some may feel that he has unfinished business at the Bernabeu.
However, Everton are unlikely to make it easy for Ancelotti to leave Goodison Park. And in truth, it would arguably be a surprise if the Italian really wanted a return.
He would have surely known that taking the Toffees to the next level would not happen overnight. And there is certainly a feeling that the club have not reached their ceiling under Ancelotti.
Returning to Madrid meanwhile, would surely be a gamble. Ancelotti was dismissed just one year and a day after lifting the Champions League trophy.
That highlights just how difficult it can be to live up to expectations in the Spanish capital. So surely, Everton will fancy their chances of holding onto Ancelotti even if Madrid do come calling.
