Aston Villa and Sheffield United may have to brace themselves for disappointment, with the Sheffield Star reporting that Reading are convinced that they will be able to keep John Swift this summer.
Birmingham Live reported last week that Villa were ready to outbid the Blades for Swift. It was suggested that they were preparing a bid worth between £6-£8 million.
The report noted that the offer was likely to be rejected by the Royals. But, perhaps surprisingly, it would seem that the Championship side believe that they may be able to knock back all bids for the 25-year-old during this window.
The Sheffield Star has suggested that Reading are convinced that they can keep Swift beyond this window.
TBR View: Villa and Sheffield United will surely test Reading’s resolve further
It is no surprise to see Swift attract top flight attention this summer. The midfielder scored six goals and provided 10 assists for Reading last season.
It is an outstanding return. And he is a player who can also play in a variety of roles. So he is going to tick a lot of boxes for a number of clubs.
It would be a huge boost for Reading therefore, if they can hold onto Swift. But it will also be no shock if the likes of Villa and Sheffield United look to test their resolve further before switching their attention elsewhere.
