Liverpool may be out of the running to sign Real Madrid star Raphael Varane, with the player apparently preferring a move to Manchester United this summer.
The Reds have been linked with a move for Varane for some time now. The Frenchman was one of a number of names to emerge in January as Jurgen Klopp sought a new defender.
And while it’s still looking likely that Madrid will sell Varane this summer, AS are now reporting that the 27-year-old prefers a move to Old Trafford over anywhere else. This, despite interest from French giants, PSG.

AS state that Varane’s desire to play in the Premier League is giving United the edge in the race to land him. Liverpool, meanwhile, seem to have gone cold in terms of being linked. The Reds could, instead, press ahead with their bid to land Ibrahima Konate.
Varane, who has won the World Cup and has multiple Champions League winners medals, has just a year left on his current deal.
TBR View: Varane is world-class, Liverpool need to land Konate if they do miss out
While Liverpool have been linked with a host of players in the last few months, losing out on someone like Varane – especially to Manchester United – would sting.
He is truly a world-class defender and it’s little wonder the very best clubs want him. Quality on the ball, but dominant in his defensive work, Varane really does have it all. He’s also a serial winner, something money can’t buy.
Liverpool, then, will need to ensure they land Konate if they do miss out here.
