Rangers winger Brandon Barker is set to leave Ibrox on loan, according to a report from Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (1/2; 17:06).

Barker has made 13 appearances for Steven Gerrard’s side in all competitions this season. He has scored twice for the runaway Scottish Premiership leaders.

He has struggled to win his doubters over during his time with the Gers, despite Gerrard labelling him dangerous earlier this season (via Daily Record). And it now appears that he may be about to get the chance to a secure a temporary move elsewhere.

According to Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (1/2; 17:06), Barker is close to agreeing a loan move to Oxford United.

No League One side has been in better form lately than Oxford. Karl Robinson’s men have won their last eight in all competitions. They sit just three points off the play-off spots.

They play an exciting brand of football. So it could be an inspired move for Barker, who had impressed out on loan before joining Rangers in 2019.

Barker – who reportedly earns £8,500-a-week – needs to make the most of the opportunity. Rangers continue to make progress and could be looking at featuring in the Champions League next year.

If he cannot make a major impact in England’s third tier, he is surely facing an uphill battle trying to prove that his long-term future still lies at Ibrox.
