Report: Rangers want to sign Leeds midfielder, van Bronckhorst reunion

The Scottish Mail (January 1, page 112) that Rangers are interested in raiding Leeds United to sign winger Crysencio Summerville on loan this month. It would see the Leeds star reunite with Gio van Bronckhorst.

Summerville, 20, has broken into the senior Leeds side this season. It comes after joining the club from Feyenoord in September 2020, where he worked under van Bronckhorst during the latter’s time in charge of the academy.

Indeed, it was the new Rangers manager that decided to hand Summerville a contract at Feyenoord. That is, despite van Bronckhorst taking action against Summerville after the youngster had a spat with a teammate at 17.

Now, Rangers want additions out wide and van Bronckhorst could look to Summerville. There is potentially scope for a permanent move to Ibrox down the line – with Summerville’s contract due to expire in June 2023.

Rangers eye Summerville: Ibrox loan is perfect for Leeds winger

Summerville is now good enough to get first-team football at a club like Rangers. What makes the move perfect is that Rangers play with a high press, like Leeds, attacking football and boast the majority of possession.

It is not dissimilar to the way Leeds play – making it a good apprenticeship. He gets to work under a manager that he knows, and would get game time and some crucial experience in a side pushing for a league title.

TransferMarkt claim that Summerville is represented by the same agency that looks after Connor Goldson, and John Lundstram.
