Interestingly, the report suggests that the Blades want around £15 million for the Scotland international.

Despite form, Rangers landing Oli McBurnie in transfer window would be huge statement

Like many of his teammates at Bramall Lane, McBurnie has endured a nightmare year in the Premier League.

But he was hugely impressive following his then-club-record move to the Blades in 2019.

He scored six times in the top flight, having bagged 31 goals in the previous 18 months in the Championship.

Admittedly, Rangers fans may be extremely concerned about the possibility of spending such a large sum on McBurnie.

The Gers boast a fantastic cluster of striker options right now. And spending £15 million on a forward who scored once this past season could definitely be deemed to be a gamble.

But Rangers have got a lot right in the transfer window in recent years. So if Gerrard believes that he would be a worthwhile signing, it may be best for all concerned to reach some sort of agreement.

McBurnie may relish the chance to make a fresh start, particularly with his boyhood club.

And Rangers may feel that it could be the kind of deal that could help take their side to the next level.
