Report: Rangers transfer target Daniel Johnson could cost £5m-plus

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard was already looking for further reinforcements in the midfield position at Ibrox this summer.

Rangers have been linked with a host of names before current Gerrard regular Joe Aribo suffered a serious injury.

So Rangers boss Gerrard will be looking to bring in another midfielder to strengthen the club and one player who has been linked with an Ibrox switch this week is Daniel Johnson.

As reported by the Daily Record, there are rumours of a £2 million bid for the player circulating south of the border.

However, it seems that it will cost a lot more than that if Rangers want to secure his signature.

A new report from the Daily Record has suggested no bid is yet to be lodged by the Glasgow side.

It is suggested that despite Johnson being in the final year of his contract, Rangers would need to make a move in excess of £5 million to sign the Preston North End star.

That is certainly a big fee for Rangers, especially with the Jamaican-born talent in the final year of his deal at Deepdale.

So it would seem Rangers would have to dig relatively deep into their transfer resources to make a deal happen.
