The Daily Record have claimed that Rangers can make Bongani Zungu’s loan deal at Ibrox a permanent one if they decide to pay a bargain fee of just £2.7million for the South Africa international – with his parent club expecting a deal.
The 24-time South Africa star caught the eye of Rangers and Steven Gerrard this summer after clocking up 21 appearances in Ligue 1 last season. The Gers have been linked with a move for Zungu for much of the window.
Zungu, who turned 28 earlier this month, agreed a season-long loan move to Rangers on deadline day from French club Amiens. A permanent clause has now been confirmed as being included in a deal, and it is a bargain fee.
Indeed, Zungu can be signed for a bargain £2.7million this summer. Amiens ‘don’t expect him’ to return to France next summer, where he has two years remaining on his current contract.

TBR’s view – Even if Zungu has a mediocre season, £2.7m is a bargain
Zungu is a very good midfielder and has top-flight experience – as well as plenty of caps for his country. He has shown quality in France and Portugal, and is certainly a bargain at £2.7million. If he struggles at Rangers, then the Gers have the option.
But even if Zungu takes a while to adapt to the Scottish Premiership and the high standards set by Steven Gerrard, and only enjoys a half-decent season with Rangers – he would still be worth £2.7million. That is how cheap the permanent option is.
