According to Mozzart Sport, Rangers have submitted a €3.5m bid (£3m) for Red Star Belgrade midfielder Mirko Ivanic.

What’s the story?

Well, if this is true, it’s very exciting news for the Ibrox faithful.

The 15-cap Montenegro international has already scored four goals in nine games from an attacking midfielder position this season.

It comes after the 27-year-old amazingly scored 20 goals and recorded 16 assists in 48 appearances last season.

Additionally, Mozzart Sport describe Ivanic as one of the best players in the Serbian Super League, which should excite Rangers fans.

The offer from Steven Gerrard’s side is described as a very good one for the goalscoring midfielder, with his contract set to expire in 2022.

Could Rangers have their own Frank Lampard?

Make no mistake about it, it isn’t easy to score 20 goals from midfield.

Frank Lampard used to do it in his sleep, but few midfielders have managed to follow in his footsteps by doing so as well.

In that respect, Gerrard would be adding something rare to his squad.

It’s also brilliant to have a midfielder who chips in so frequently with goals, as strikers can often endure goal droughts throughout a season.

Currently, Gerrard doesn’t have a midfielder capable of bagging 20 goals, so a move for Ivanic would provide the Gers with something different.

With Celtic finding their own midfield maestro in Kyogo Furuhashi, it’s time for Gerrard to respond by bringing one of his own to Glasgow.
