Rangers striker Alfredo Morelos has reportedly become a shock loan target for Marseille.
According to French outlet Le10 Sport, the Colombian international is wanted rather audaciously on a temporary basis by the Ligue 1 side.
Morelos has been heavily linked with an exit from Ibrox this summer, with Lille having been the most mentioned team. It is claimed a £16 million bid was rejected by the Scottish giants (Times).
But now it appears Marseille, who return to the Champions League in 2020/21, want the 24-year-old, but aren’t wanting to facilitate a permanent transfer.
The publication say such a move for Marseille would be very complicated, with Rangers wanting a transfer for their talisman if he is to depart, but that ‘concrete discussions’ have commenced.
Morelos has proven to be excellent business for the club following his move from HJK Helsinki in 2017.
The South American has plundered 79 goals for the club in 142 appearances and contributed a further 31 assists.
TBR’s View – Marseille shouldn’t waste their time
There is surely no chance of Rangers letting Morelos leave the club on loan.
A temporary move away from the club would not benefit Steven Gerrard’s side in the slightest.
There may currently be question marks over the player’s desire to play for the club, but surely loaning him out is not the answer for the Light Blues, who could use the considerable cash generated by any sale to strengthen.
