Report: Rangers star Borna Barisic on four-man Napoli shopping list

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will be hoping to keep the Croatian at Ibrox this summer.

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard will not only want to be bringing in new faces to Ibrox this summer to ensure the Glasgow side challenge for the title next season, but he will also want to be keeping his star players.

Rangers already know they face an uphill battle to keep Alfredo Morelos at Ibrox, but Gerrard will be hoping the core of his team from 2019-20 can be kept together at Ibrox.

But it is not just the Colombian striker who is trying to be lured away from Ibrox. It seems that Rangers left-back Borna Barisic still has suitors at a top club in Italy.

The Croatian star, who has turned his Ibrox career around, is being named as one of four players on the shortlist to strengthen the left-back position at Italian giants Napoli.

Il Mattino claims that the Rangers star is a potential option for former Ibrox star Gennaro Gattuso, now managing the Partenopei, as they have doubts over their current left-back situation. Napoli have also been linked recently with a move for Morelos.

Barisic initially struggled to settle at Ibrox but speaking amid reported interest in the player this past January, Gerrard told the Glasgow Evening Times that he ‘has a fantastic relationship’ with the free-kick specialist and had no desire to see him leave.

Barisic then signed a new contract keeping him at Ibrox until 2024, telling the Rangers official site that he felt like he was with his ‘family’ in Glasgow.

So it would be a surprise to see him leave so soon after that agreement. However, Rangers will no doubt have a price they feel is too good to refuse and fans will hope that Napoli cannot match it and pry the 27-year-old away from Ibrox.
