Rangers are reportedly set to make a new bid for Oldham Athletic enforcer George Edmundson.

According to the Scottish Sun, Steven Gerrard’s team will make an “improved offer” for the defender and discussions are set to be held early next week.

It is understood that the Gers saw their first £400,000-a-week move rejected by the League Two club for the centre-back.

The report details that the 21-year-old colossus has turned down a long-term contract offer from Oldham and they are resigned to losing him this summer.

Rangers do face competition from the likes of Wigan Athletic, Stoke City, Derby County, Hull City and Peterborough for his signature.

TBR’s View:

Edmundson has just helped Oldham to a mid-table finish in League Two and is viewed by many as their outstanding individual that is capable of playing at a higher level.

Rangers need a couple more additions at Ibrox in the summer if they are to launch a serious title bid next season against champions Celtic.

With Joe Worrall departing the Light Blues after his loan, it leaves a gap in the centre-back options for the Gers.

Rangers would be taking a chance on Edmundson if they bring him to the club given his experience in the lower leagues, but there is big interest in him for a reason and he’s a towering defender with great potential.

He could be a great back-up option next year behind Nikola Katic and Connor Goldson in the heart of defence.
