Glasgow Rangers are reportedly interested in bringing Danilho Doekhi to Ibrox this summer, according to De Gelderlander.

The Dutch outlet claims that Rangers are planning to offer the Vitesse defender – who has one year left on his deal – a three-year contract.

Rangers aren’t the only side linked with Doekhi’s services through – English sides Newcastle and Fulham are also said to be after his signature.

The 22-year-old rose through the ranks at Excelsior before impressing the scouts at Ajax’s renowned academy and turning out for their B team.

He then signed a four-year deal at Vitesse in 2018 and has featured prominently this season, making 28 Eredivisie appearances plus a further five in the Dutch Cup.

Head coach Thomas Letsch has been pleased by Doekhi’s development and sung his praises earlier this year.

Speaking to NOS, he said: “Danilho is extremely important. He is one of the best center-backs in the league.

“He already played fantastic last year and this season he has performed at the highest level in every game.

“Danilho makes almost no mistakes and is an absolute team player, a very calm player.”

TBR View:

Doekhi is a high-calibre young player with lots of potential, and his manager’s comments are testament to his quality.

Admittedly, Rangers are well stocked at centre-back, with Connor Goldson, Filip Helander, Leon Balogun, Jack Simpson, Nikola Katic and George Edmundson all set to be available next summer.

However, Gerrard has previously spoken about how all six won’t be at the club next season, so Doekhi could potentially come in as a replacement for one or more of the above.
