Rangers are closing in on signing Bongani Zungu, with Steven Gerrard’s side prepared to meet the midfielder’s £3.8 million asking price, according to a report from The Scotsman.
The transfer window has only just officially opened in Scotland. But Gerrard has wasted little time in making additions to his squad.

Ianis Hagi has signed a permanent deal. Meanwhile, the Light Blues have since added Calvin Bassey and Jon McLaughlin.
And it appears that Rangers are closing in on their fourth signing of the window. The Scotsman reports that they have begun talks with Amiens for Zungu and are now close to reaching an agreement.

TBR View: Gers closing in on coup
Signing Zungu would arguably be a real coup for Rangers. As reported by Soccer Laduma, his style of play has been compared to Yaya Toure in the past.
He made 21 Ligue 1 appearances this past season. Zungu played in holding midfield for the majority of those games, but he was also deployed slightly further forward at times.
The fee involved may add a little pressure – should he complete his Ibrox switch. But he is a South Africa international with experience of playing in Portugal and France.
The Scotsman notes that a move to La Liga side Mallorca fell through earlier this year. So perhaps Mallorca’s loss will prove to be Rangers’s gain this summer.
