The Daily Record have reported that striker Eduardo Herrera has reported for pre-season training at Mexican side Club Necaxa, instead of returning to Rangers.
The 30-year-old spent the second half of the 2018-19 campaign on loan at top-tier side Necaxa, after struggling to impress during the first half of the season with Necaxa’s league rivals Santos Laguna.
The Mexico international scored five goals in 16 games as well as laying on two assists for Necaxa, and it appears as though he could be staying with the club this summer – with the Record stating that he has started pre-season.
Herrera was a £1.5million signing made by Pedro Caixinha in the summer of 2017, but he flopped in his first season at Ibrox. Indeed, he found the back of the net just twice in 24 league and cup outings.

Rangers will be desperate to get Herrera off the wage bill this summer, given that he is one of the club’s highest earners. It is believed the target man is taking home £20,000 (Record) a week.
TBR’s view
Though it is slightly disrespectful that Herrera has not opted to return to Rangers with the clubs yet to confirm a sale or purchase of the striker, Rangers fans will be delighted.
It does seem as though Herrera is looking to spend pre-season at Necaxa, suggesting that he could be set to leave Rangers permanently – finally wiping his wages off the wage bill.
The only issue is that fans have been left in the dark at the moment. No confirmation has been made from either party. With 12 months remaining on his Rangers deal, it remains to be seen what is going on.
