Report: Rangers 'monitoring' Liverpool star wanted by PL quartet; deal would smash Gers' transfer record

Rangers boss Steven Gerrard may be looking to beat a raft of sides and bring Divock Origi to Ibrox this summer, according to a surprise report from 90min.

Origi is wanted by the Gers, as well as Celtic and a number of Liverpool’s Premier League rivals.

According to 90min, Origi is one of the players who the Reds could sell to bolster their transfer funds and make room in their squad this summer.

And there are a host of sides monitoring his situation. Rangers are joined by their Scottish Premiership rivals, as well as West Ham, Crystal Palace, Southampton and Newcastle.

Admittedly, he has not had the easiest time at Anfield. But he has been providing cover for one of the best front threes in world football in the last few years.

And he has scored a handful of incredibly notable goals.

Oddly, perhaps the most famous may not be his strike in the Champions League final win over Spurs in 2019.

Instead, it may be the goal from that corner in the semi-final with Barcelona. That night, Origi scored twice in the 4-0 win that saw Jurgen Klopp’s men complete the most incredible comeback.

And of course, he bagged the stoppage-time winner in the Merseyside derby the year before when Jordan Pickford decided to scoop the ball back into play.

Hard to see Rangers making Origi move, but it would be a huge statement

Rangers would have to smash their club record for Origi. Currently, Tore Andre Flo is the club’s most expensive addition at £12 million.

Recent reports claimed Liverpool would want at least £15 million for the Belgian. Their asking price could rise up to £20 million.

Certainly, Gers fans are unlikely to think that there is much chance of a deal.

But they can offer Champions League football next year. And they may need a new attacking talisman amid speculation surrounding Alfredo Morelos’s future.
