Rangers have been named as one of a number of clubs to be interested in landing young Serbian goalkeeper, Djordje Petrovic, during the upcoming summer transfer window.
According to a report from Foot Mercato, the Gers have already enquired about signing the 20-year-old, who is attracting admiring glances from a host of clubs across Europe.
The report names the likes of Getafe, Nice, and Anderlecht as potential destinations for Petrovic, who is currently plying his trade in Serbia with Cukaricki.
Petrovic would no doubt be one for the future at Ibrox. The club currently has Allan McGregor on the books as number one, while they also signed Jon McLaughlin from Sunderland last week.
The young goalkeeper, though, has looked impressive. He’s kept seven clean-sheets this term, while only conceding 30 goals in 25 games despite still being under 21.
Petrovic has been involved with the Serbian under-21 squad but, as yet, has failed to make an appearance for the club.
Building for the future a wise thing to do by Steven Gerrard – TBR View
Let’s be completely honest, signing someone like Petrovic is not something for the immediate term. The youngster would simply be a work in progress type player who can improve his game as the years go by.
But working with the likes of McGregor and McLaughlin would help Petrovic. Of course, it would be a big step to come over to Scotland from Serbia.
However, clubs like Rangers don’t come along too often for young players like this. With that, Steven Gerrard might well have a great chance of beating out the competition to land the 20-year-old.
