Rangers are interested in agreeing a pre-contract deal with Sean McGurk, with The Sun reporting that a Leeds United bid for the Ibrox target has been rejected.
McGurk is out of contract with Wigan at the end of the season. The Sun reports that Leeds had an offer turned down before the campaign began.
And it appears that Marcelo Bielsa remains keen on the 17-year-old. The report claims that the Whites have made a fresh move for the teenage midfielder.
However, Leeds have seen their bid rejected. And that is seemingly a major boost for Steven Gerrard’s side.
Gerrard knows McGurk from his time working in Liverpool’s academy. And The Sun has suggested that the Gers are keen on agreeing a pre-contract deal with the starlet.
TBR View: McGurk may face tough decision
It certainly looks to be an exciting time to join Rangers. Gerrard’s men are in a fantastic position in this season’s title race. And the Gers boss will be hoping that their form is a sign of a long-term shift of the power towards Ibrox.
But Leeds have enjoyed success when signing youngsters from Wigan in the not-so-distant past. Joe Gelhardt arrived at Elland Road in the summer and has frequently been one of the most impressive performers in their under-23 ranks.
A first-team debut looks inevitable for Gelhardt at some stage. And that may cross McGurk’s mind if Leeds return with an improved offer that is accepted.
