BT Sport have claimed – as per the PA News Agency – that Rangers are interested in raiding Coventry City for their Brazilian-born midfielder Gustavo Hamer, after an exciting start to life in English football.
Hamer, 23, joined Coventry following the Sky Blues promotion to the Championship, having previously done well with Dutch side PEC Zwolle where he played 50 times at senior level. He came through the ranks at Feyenoord.
At Coventry in what is his first season in England, Hamer has scored four goals in 21 games for the Championship outfit – while also laying on two assists from the middle of the park, following his £1.2million move (BT).
Rangers are said to be unlikely to do much business in January, but are interested in Aberdeen’s winger Scott Wright. However, the Gers could look to sign a long-term replacement for Davis and Hamer has been identified.
TBR’s view – Hamer has the potential to be something special
Already a Netherlands Under-20 international, despite being born in Brazil, Hamer is showing enormous quality in a side that are expected to be towards the bottom of the Championship table come the end of the season.
Certainly, wherever Coventry end up this season, Hamer will hardly stay put. Signed for a bargain figure, Coventry are in line to make a tidy profit and although he has the potential, his fee could make the difference.
Rangers will have a figure in mind but Steven Gerrard is already renowned for spending his money wisely – bringing in Kemar Roofe, for example, for less than £5million. It remains to be seen what Coventry want for Hamer.
TransferMarkt say he has the same agents as Connor Goldson and Jermain Defoe, in the form of agency Wasserman.
