Glasgow Rangers are reported to be in negotiations with Ianis Hagi’s parent club over payment methods ahead of a permanent Ibrox switch, according to Het Nieuwsblad.

Hagi joined Rangers on a six-month loan at the end of the January transfer window from Genk and the 21-year-old took no time at all in winning over the Ibrox fanbase.

The Romania international weighed in with three goals, plus two assists, from 12 Light Blues games, including his superb brace in the Europa League last-32 first leg win over Braga.

“Neither Messi nor Ronaldo hit the ball so perfectly with both feet when they were Ianis’ age,” former Romania international Marian Aliuta is quoted by the Daily Record as saying in April.

“That’s his big advantage. His technical skill with both feet is incredible. Although he’s not the quickest, his positional sense is excellent too.”

Rangers have an option to make Hagi’s signing permanent at the end of the season and, according to Goal.com, the Ibrox side was seemingly close to completing the £4.5million deal in April.

There appeared to be a stumbling block at the start of May as Ross Wilson suggested that the financial uncertainty in the football industry caused by the global health crisis could “possibly” have an impact over Gers’ hopes of the deal.

However, Het Nieuwsblad now claims that Rangers are in negotiations with Genk over the payment methods for Hagi, adding that the Belgians also plan to take up their option on Celtic’s Eboue Kouassi before the end of the month.

TBR View:

Things could hardly have gone any better so far for both Hagi and for Rangers during this season’s loan, the youngster loving life at the famous club, which in turn has benefitted from his services, and a permanent Ibrox move now looks closer than ever.

As talented as Hagi is and as much promise as he’s shown, it’s important for him to be at the right club to truly prosper and be happy – his switch to Fiorentina didn’t work out, while this one seems to be working out very well.

For Rangers to be able to sign a player who has also been linked with Lazio and Real Madrid (Goal.com) and has drawn comparisons with Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo, and for as little as £4.5million, looks like quite a coup for Gerrard and co.
