Report: Rangers have £2.6m bid rejected for English star, Celtic also linked
Turkish website A Spor have claimed that Rangers have seen an offer of £2.6million rejected for Fenerbahce wide man Bright Osayi-Samuel. The player is keen on a move to Ibrox, but his club want a figure of at least £3.5million. Celtic have also been linked in recent weeks.
Osayi-Samuel, 23, was a target for both Scottish clubs in January when the winger made the surprise move to Fenerbahce from QPR. Since then, he has struggled alongside Mesut Ozil – scoring just one goal in 19 appearances. An immediate move away from Fenerbahce is looking increasingly likely.
The latest report claims Rangers have now made an offer for the Nigerian attacker. But the £2.6million bid is some way below the £3.5million asking price. Osayi-Samuel wants to join Rangers, but Celtic could be just as interested. Fotospor claimed earlier this year that the Hoops are keen.
Osayi-Samuel offers depth and versatility, but who needs him more – Celtic or Rangers?
Rangers could do with a player like Osayi-Samuel. Naturally a right-winger, he is more than adept of playing on the left. Greg Stewart has left, while Jordan Jones, Brandon Barker, Jake Hastie, Jamie Murphy and Glenn Middleton could all also depart. They need depth out wide.
Celtic, meanwhile, need additions all over the park. Mo Elyounoussi is set to return to parent club Southampton and Celtic need to replace him out wide. Even if they signed another winger, the Hoops could do with Osayi-Samuel. Celtic need him more, but Rangers are clearly better positioned.
