Rangers-linked Salih Ozcan is on the verge of signing a new contract with FC. Koln, according to Kicker.

The Gers were preparing a move for the ace in case one of their midfielder’s left the club. A move would’ve been fairly simple with the player’s contract expiring this summer.

However, he looks set to sign a new deal in a massive blow for the Ibrox outfit.

The publication claimed that manager Steffen Baumgart convinced the midfielder to remain with his hometown club.

A basic agreement has been reached between the Germany youth international and the club. However, the duration of the new deal is yet to be confirmed.

TBR View: New Ozcan contract a bitter blow for Rangers

A new contract for Ozcan is a bitter blow for Rangers in their search for a midfielder.

A free transfer for a promising young talent would’ve strengthened Steven Gerrard’s side considerably.

The player’s versatility across midfield and eye for a goal made him an attractive prospect.

Champions League football would’ve been a considerable bargaining chip in the side’s move for the midfielder.

However, the Glasgow giants need to push the boat out further this summer in search for replacement targets.
