Report: Rangers face new battle for £27.5m prodigy Bears deemed an ‘incredible talent’

A player linked with Ibrox side Glasgow Rangers and bitter Old Firm rivals Celtic is now believed to be on the radar of Fenerbahce, according to Turkish outlet Fanatik.

Steven Gerrard’s charges and Neil Lennon’s side were linked with Atletico Madrid winger Rodrigo Riquelme earlier in March, claimed a report from Marca.

Fanatik now claims Turkish giants Fenerbahce now want to sign the 19-year-old, with the report comparing him to Barcelona star Antoine Griezmann for his style of play.

Riquelme has come through the Atletico academy and has already made two senior appearances for the senior side including one in La Liga (Transfermarkt).

With his contract expiring at the end of the season and a €30million release clause (£27.5million), the Colchoneros are reportedly looking to tie him down to a new deal.

Riquelme is well known to a number of Rangers fans after his dazzling display against the Ibrox side’s Colts in the UEFA Youth League just a month ago.

The reaction from some Bears on the day said it all:

TBR View:

Rangers fans were treated to a Riquelme masterclass a month ago but, predictably, it hasn’t taken long for interest to pile up from other suitors including the Ibrox side’s bitter Glasgow rivals.

Admittedly, £27.5million might be out of Rangers’ price range at present, but La Razon did report earlier this month that Riquelme could sign a new deal and then head to Ibrox on loan, as part of a deal sending Gers striker Alfredo Morelos to Spain.

A big decision to make, particularly considering one player would leave permanently and the other would only be on board for a season, but given the interest from the likes of Celtic and Fenerbahce, it may be a necessary one if they are to secure the 19-year-old’s services.
