Glasgow Rangers boss Steven Gerrard is reportedly keen on bringing 19-year-old midfielder Dion McGhee to Ibrox this summer, according to the Daily Star.

McGhee has come through the ranks at Manchester United but is out of contract at the end of the season and will not be offered a new deal.

The youngster has been at the club since the age of six, and made nine Premier League 2 Division 2 appearances for the Under-23 side this term.

McGhee is highly rated at Carrington and as such, his imminent departure appears to have sparked a lot of interest from across Britain and Europe too.

According to the Daily Star, Rangers are joined by Premier League duo West Ham and Watford, plus Championship side Derby, in tracking McGhee amid his release from Old Trafford.

He is also believed to be on the radar of several European teams including Portugal’s Benfica and Porto, French side Nice and Dutch high-flyers AZ.

The Manchester Evening News, meanwhile, claims that McGhee has also spoken to clubs in Italy and Spain.

Crucially for Rangers, the Daily Star report claims that “the appeal of playing under Steven Gerrard may well lead McGhee to eventually head for Glasgow.”

McGhee is a talented and versatile attacking midfielder who has also featured at left-back, and could be one for the future at Ibrox.

Learning and playing under arguably one of the best attacking midfielders in history could be a huge factor in Rangers winning him over so let’s hope that’s just what happens.
