Glasgow Rangers will look to decide whether to bring Bongani Zungu to Ibrox before the weekend, according to the Scottish Sun.

The South Africa international currently plies his trade at French side Amiens, who were relegated from Ligue 1 in wake of the season being called prematurely.

Zungu admitted in May that he’s ready for a new challenge, telling Get French Football News: “Personally I would like to move on with my career, and hopefully it happens.”

According to a report in L’Equipe from Tuesday afternoon, Zungu looked set to become Steven Gerrard’s fifth summer signing in a £3.6million deal.

However, the Scottish Sun then claimed on Tuesday night that the Gers have yet to table a formal offer for the 27-year-old, though Gerrard does admire Zungu.

In addition, the outlet claims that Rangers haven’t ruled out a bid ahead of Saturday’s Scottish Premiership opener at Aberdeen, and will look to decide over the next 48 hours.

According to Glasgow Live, Zungu has been described as a defensively-minded midfielder with quick feet and composure in tight areas, along with an impressive ability to hit accurate, long passes.

Soccer Laduma, meanwhile, notes how his playing style has been compared to that of Yaya Toure and Paul Pogba.

Zungu welcomed the comparisons, replying: “You know, Yaya is my role model. His words have always encouraged me so to be compared to him and Pogba is a great honour.”

The reported price tag of £3.6million seems reasonable for a player with such good credentials, with Rangers definitely in need of an enforcer in midfield.
