Report: Rangers can sign loanee Florian Kamberi for a bargain six-figure fee

The Daily Record have claimed that Rangers can sign on-loan attacker Florian Kamberi for a bargain £150,000 this summer, but Steven Gerrard’s men will have to move quickly – with Hull City stealing a march on the Gers.

Kamberi, 25, joined Rangers on loan in January after Jermain Defoe suffered an injury – in order to provide cover for Alfredo Morelos. The Albanian ace has since played nine times for Rangers, having a hand in three goals.

Indeed, Kamberi has impressed when given the chance. He scored in a 2-2 draw against St. Johnstone, half-volleying a loose ball into the top corner. He also provided a crucial assist in the same match, and against Ross County.

The report claims Kamberi can be signed for the fee Hibernian paid for him – just £150,000. Some English sides have seen bids rejected, while Hull are leading the race. Lech Poznan of Poland are also keen.

Speaking after Kamberi’s goal and assist against St. Johnstone, Gerrard said: “When we went 1-0 down I needed to twist and I did that. I thought he was absolutely outstanding. On that performance he plays in Braga, for sure.

“You can’t ignore that, it was some impact. On that evidence, he can step up to the plate in Europe,” as per the Record.

TBR’s view – Kamberi is a no-brainer at that price

Alfredo Morelos’ poor form in the second half of the season might just be enough to see Rangers keep the Colombia international for another season – with his lack of discipline creeping back in.

Defoe is set to remain at Ibrox for another campaign, but the Gers need a third striker to cover Morelos’ suspensions and Defoe’s inevitable niggles with injury – given the English veteran is now 37 years of age.

Kamberi is ideal. Not only does he provide cover as a striker, but he is also more than capable of playing of the likes of Morelos or Defoe – and can do a job out wide. At just £150,000, it is a no-brainer for Gerrard.
