Rangers are reportedly closing in on a deal to sign forward Fashion Sakala from Belgian top-flight club KV Oostende.

According to the Daily Record, the Gers are in “advanced talks” for the 24-year-old.

It is explained that the player’s contract expires at his current club at the end of the season, and the Scottish giants have stepped up interest to try secure his signature.

The report claims that there has been interest from Lille, Belgium and other European countries. However, the lure of working under Gers boss Steven Gerrard is appealing for the centre-forward, plus the possibility of Champions League football.

Sakala, who has scored 13 goals in 29 appearances this season, has impressed in the Belgian league during the past few years.

The quick attacker is mainly deployed in central positions, but can drift into wide areas too if needed.

TBR’s View:

It sounds like Rangers want to get their business wrapped up quickly, something which will allow any new members of the squad to bed in during the summer.

It’s one thing to have won the league title this season, but the task now for Gerrard’s side is to prove they are the real deal by going to defend it.

Rangers do already have some quality options in the forward areas of the pitch, but striker target Sakala could be a much-needed addition depending on who leaves Ibrox at the end of the season.
