Belgian website Het Nieuwsblad have claimed that Rangers and Leeds are interested in signing Gent defender Milad Mohammadi this summer, just one season after the Iranian ace moved to Belgium.

Mohammadi, 25, impressed in his first season in Belgian football and although he only managed 24 appearances in all competitions due to the early end of the Jupiler League. He also played three times in the Europa League.

The report claims that despite Mohammadi joining Gent, he would be open to a move to Rangers or Leeds – though it remains to be seen if either Steven Gerrard’s club or Victor Orta will stump up a whopping £6.5million.

TBR’s view – Which club needs Mohammadi more?

Leeds certainly have a wealth of options at left-back. Stuart Dallas and Gjanni Alioski have been converted into left-sided defenders and are two of the more experienced members of the Leeds side.

Barry Douglas, a Rangers fan but a Leeds player, is also an option as is Leif Davis. At Ibrox, Borna Barisic starts while Calvin Bassey has been brought in as cover. Mohammadi could be used as cover.

But at £6million, is he worth paying for if he will not start? Probably not. The only way Rangers will be interested is if Barisic departs in the coming weeks – something which looks unlikely.
