Frank Lampard and Steven Gerrard were team-mates for England but now they are going head-to-head for a young striker. That is according to former Hibernian striker Garry O’Connor in an interview with The Daily Record.
O’Connor told The Daily Record that both Rangers and Chelsea were trying to sign his son. Josh O’Connor is attracting attention from Lampard and Gerrard’s clubs but Hibernian are desperate to keep him.
Josh will be guided by his father, who played for Hibernian, Lokomotiv Moscow and Birmingham City during his career. He also earned 16 caps for Scotland and scored four times but predicts Josh will be a much better player.

Garry O’Connor told The Daily Record: “Josh is better than me, much better. Chelsea are after him. Rangers had a bid knocked back and there’s a five-year deal on the table for him at Hibs. But I’ve told them it can wait. He’s just going into fourth year at school and I want him to focus on that.”
TBR’s view
Josh O’Connor is a teenage striker who is excelling in Hibs’ youth system. But with a father like Garry – who has trodden the path already – Josh will be well-guided throughout his career.
In this interview, Garry was very open and honest about those mistakes. He wants Josh to avoid them, get an education and then focus on his football. But with the likes of Rangers and Chelsea calling, he could be set for stardom one day.
