Rangers have missed out on signing Luke Freeman, according to a report from Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (31/1; 12:12), with Steven Gerrard amongst the managers showing interest in signing the midfielder on loan this month.
Freeman has had a difficult time since moving to Sheffield United in the summer. The Gers target has only made three starts in the Premier League.

And it appears that plenty of sides were interested in testing the Blades’ resolve to keep the 27-year-old.
According to Sky Sports’ live transfer blog (31/1; 12:12), both Rangers and Celtic were keen on signing Freeman on loan, while Nottingham Forest and Fulham were amongst the sides interested in taking him back to the Championship.

However, the report notes that Chris Wilder’s side have knocked back all interest in the player.
TBR View – Freeman could have been inspired addition for Rangers or Celtic
Freeman’s time at Bramall Lane is yet to really get going. But perhaps it would be fair to suggest that he could have been an inspired signing for either Rangers or Celtic.
It was reported by BBC Sport when he arrived in the summer that Sheffield United broke their club record to sign him. They have since made bigger statements in the market, but it highlighted how good Freeman was in the second tier last season.
The Englishman scored seven goals and contributed six assists during the previous campaign.
With the Scottish Premiership title race threatening to go right down to the wire, it would have been a huge coup for either Rangers or Celtic to land Freeman – particularly as a move to either Ibrox or Parkhead would have seemingly seen Gerrard or Neil Lennon miss out on their reported target.
