Rangers are one of the teams at the front of the queue to sign Bright Osayi-Samuel, with Steven Gerrard now able to discuss bringing the attacker to Ibrox on a pre-contract deal, according to The Athletic.

The January window could be a pivotal one for the Gers. Rangers are well clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership. But Gerrard will be wary of allowing any complacency to creep into his side.

And it will be interesting to see how that may influence their January plans.

One player reportedly on their radar with the window now open is Osayi-Samuel. In fact, The Athletic reports that Rangers, along with Celtic, head the queue to sign the 23-year-old.

Osayi-Samuel is out of contract at the end of the season. So QPR have a difficult decision to make this month.

TEAMtalk reported this week that the likes of West Ham and Crystal Palace are keen to offer Osayi-Samuel a move to the Premier League.

And with QPR facing up to losing him for nothing in a few months, the report suggested that they could look to sell this month.

Rangers and Celtic appear to have an advantage over his Premier League admirers. They are able to discuss a pre-contract move with the youngster ahead of the summer.

TBR View: Rangers should target replicating Glen Kamara deal

One of the best pieces of business Rangers have done during Gerrard’s tenure was the move to sign Glen Kamara to a pre-contract deal in January 2019.

Ultimately, with the agreement in place, Rangers went on to negotiate an immediate move that same month. And Kamara has since become a vital part of Gerrard’s plans.

If Rangers are able to reach a similar agreement with Osayi-Samuel, it will be interesting to see if there is scope for a move to be agreed this month.

QPR are not currently in promotion contention. So they may consider whether they would be better off cashing in this month if he has already agreed a pre-contract move elsewhere.
