Manchester City have put talks over a new contract with Raheem Sterling on hold while they try and pursue a deal for Jack Grealish.
Sterling, 26, still has two years remaining on his current deal but the club were keen to tie him down further. However, the Mirror has reported that those talks have now stalled.
The report suggests that City are comfortable with the delay, believing Sterling being tied down already puts them in a strong position. It’s also suggested that Sterling himself is happy to bide his time. He is said to be keen on seeing where he fits in, if and when City do land Grealish.

Sterling has been a huge success for City ever since he signed from Liverpool back in 2015. But despite that success, he still struggled to be a first XI regular at the back end of last season.
However, he starred for England in the Euros, reminding City and Guardiola just how good he can be.
Sterling is one of the top earners at City on around £300k-a-week.
Sterling key for City but right to bide his time
If you are Raheem Sterling, you have every right here to sit back and see what is going to happen. He was already down the pecking order last term, so the arrival of Grealish will concern him further.
He’ll also be in no rush to sign a new deal. He’s already got a nice contract, and if he did run it down, wouldn’t be short of suitors.
Guardiola really has a big decision to make on his squad this summer. The competition for places is fierce enough already. The last thing he wants is unhappy players in the dressing room.
