Paris Saint-Germain have apparently shelved their interest in Everton midfielder Idrissa Gueye.
The French champions have a new name atop their transfer shortlist according to The Sunday Mirror, with Chelsea’s N’Golo Kante now their main priority this summer.
PSG’s pursued Gueye intensely in January, but the Toffees stood firm over their Senegalese dynamo.
The 2016 signing from Aston Villa revealed it is his dream to play for the French giants not long after their pursuit, but performed superbly for Everton in the second half of the season.
With Leandro Paredes having signed in January and Ander Herrera to join, news of PSG now targeting Kante will be a huge boost for Everton officials over Gueye.
Everton fans will embrace PSG’s links to Kante, but realistically they will struggle to land the World Cup winner.
Kante only signed a new deal at Chelsea in November and is the club’s highest earner on £290,000-a-week according to The Daily Express.
The Frenchman has the opportunity to play Champions League football again next term after Chelsea’s third place finish in the Premier League in 2018/19.
Perhaps the only reason he would try to move would be because Maurizio Sarri has been playing him out of position.
It’s certainly promising news for Everton fans though, with Gueye an integral part of the Toffees starting XI.
