Report: PSG make bid for apparent Liverpool target Thiago Alcantara

If Liverpool are serious about signing Thiago Alcantara from Bayern Munich this summer, then they might want to move fast as a major European rival joins the race to sign the Spanish international.

Liverpool have been linked with a move for the player since it became clear he would not be signing an extension to his current deal, which expires in 12 months time, at the Allianz Arena.

SportBild first reported in June that Liverpool were considering a move for the player with Spanish publication SPORT claiming Thiago wanted the move but that Liverpool were not willing to pay the £31.5 million asking price.

A recent report from SportBild suggested that Jurgen Klopp is keen on a deal for the player he once dubbed ‘world-class’ if they could reduce the asking price to €25 million (£22.5m).

Of course, there are those who doubt the rumours. In fact, ESPN claimed Liverpool were not interested based on Thiago’s age and potential asking price.

But that does not seem to be an issue for Paris Saint-Germain, who are now said to be keen.

Le10 Sport claim that the French giants are ready to make an offer in the region of €30 million (£27m) for the player, which Bayern would find difficult to reject.

Liverpool will, therefore, need to move fast if they want to secure Thiago’s signing. But considering the increase in price PSG’s interest will have and the fact Liverpool are not in desperate need of Thiago’s services, it is easy to consider the French side’s interest as a death knell for Liverpool’s apparent transfer plans.

If Liverpool did have any interest, it is likely to have died with this news.
