Mikel Arteta has apparently been informed that he will have limited funds to spend in January should he take the Arsenal job, but will receive more backing in the summer, according to a report from The Sun.

Arteta now looks to be on the verge of succeeding Unai Emery at the Emirates. The Sun reports that he looks set to sign a three-and-a-half year deal with the Gunners. And he will earn £5 million a year.

It looks to be a safe bet to assume that Arteta will have asked about how much he will have to spend in the coming transfer windows.

And The Sun suggests that he will have been told that there is only limited funds to spend in January. However, he will be backed at the end of the campaign.

It may not be ideal for Arteta to have limited funds in January. Arsenal are seven points off the top four in the Premier League. It is not out of the question for the Gunners to come back and force their way into those places, but they need to make a drastic improvement.

On the other hand, it may give Arteta more time to assess his options. Some of the players may respond well to his methods and spring a surprise over the coming months.

And the remaining months of the season will make it clear to Arteta where the marquee fees need to be spent in the summer when he will seemingly have the funds to make more of a statement.
