A report by The Chronicle has swiftly moved to rubbish talk of a Newcastle United return for Papiss Cisse.
On Monday morning, TEAMtalk ran a report suggesting Newcastle were offered the chance to sign Cisse for just £3m in January. Alanyaspor are trying to find a potential suitor with Cisse’s contract running out despite him scoring nine in nine this season.

Newcastle were linked with Cisse, who spent five seasons at St James’ Park. The Senegal international played 131 games for the Tyneside club and scored 44 goals. He was a popular figure with the Geordies and his tally of 37 Premier League goals was impressive.
But The Chronicle has brushed aside any speculation linking Cisse with an emotional return. Instead, the report says that Newcastle are “mystified” by these transfer rumours. There appears to be no truth behind this story.
TBR’s view
Cisse was a fan favourite at Newcastle before his move to China after the club’s relegation. But now is not the right time for a reunion as far as either party is concerned.
For Cisse, he needs to be ending his playing days in a settled environment. There are no guarantees over playing time for the 34-year-old at Newcastle. He could get these elsewhere.
And for Newcastle, Cisse is not the answer to the striker problems. After scoring just six goals in the first 10 games, Steve Bruce needs to find a new goalscorer. Bringing Cisse back is not the solution.
