Portuguese newspaper O Jogo have claimed that FC Porto are to complete the signing of West Ham United teenager Benicio Baker-Boaitey ‘in the next few days’, amid interest from some of Europe’s biggest clubs.
Baker-Boaitey is already making waves at the age of just 16, having broken into West Ham’s Under-18 side and played three times in the Under-18 Premier League this season. He has also been capped by England’s under-16’s.
Naturally a left-winger, Baker-Boaitey has caught the admiring glances of plenty of European clubs as he continues to shine in claret and blue. The report claims Barcelona and RB Leipzig have been interested of late.
However, it is expected that Porto are to win the race for the young Englishman and complete a deal for the winger in the ‘next few days’. It is expected he will join up with the FC Porto Juniors – which consist of Under-19 players.
TBR’s view – West Ham have enormous competition out wide
That may have convinced Baker-Boaitey to jump ship. In the first team, the Hammers currently boast Jarred Bowen, Robert Snodgrass, Michail Antonio, Felipe Anderson and the returning Grady Diangana.
Little room for Baker-Boaitey to shine, then. He needs space to break into a senior team in order to further his development at West Ham it looks unlikely he will get that. In Portugal, he might.
