French outlet RMC Sport have claimed that RB Leipzig defender Ibrahima Konate has already undergone a part of his Liverpool medical ahead of a possible summer move to Anfield – in a deal that is expected to see Liverpool pay £34million.
Earlier this week, The Athletic claimed that Liverpool are close to ‘finalising’ a deal to sign 21-year-old Konate from Julian Nagelsmann’s side – activating his £34million release clause. Konate has only played 15 times this season, but has impressed.
Indeed, despite being just 21 and suffering numerous injuries, Konate has already played 89 times at senior level for Leipzig and is considered one of the best young defenders in the European football. At £34million, he is considered somewhat of a coup.
Now, the latest reports claim that a move could be close to completion. Indeed, reports from RMC Sport state that a medical is already part done as the Reds close in on a move to sign Konate – who looks more and more likely to be Liverpool’s first addition.

TBR’s view – Konate would be a very good signing
Right now, he would not start for Liverpool ahead of Joe Gomez and Virgil van Dijk – not many would. But what is clear, is that he has the potential to be able to do so, and already provides very good back-up, something which Liverpool previously lacked.
At £34million, Konate is a decent addition and another example of a good bit of business from Michael Edwards. The sticking point is whether Konate can shake off his niggling injuries – but at that price, it is worth taking the risk.
