Report: Player agent rules out Frenchman's switch to Man Utd
According to Sky Sports, Karim Benzema’s agent has quashed speculation that the striker could be on his way to Manchester United, saying he wants to retire at Real Madrid.
The French international had previously been linked with a move to Old Trafford, with reports suggesting that his agent Karim Djaziri have met with United vice-chairman Ed Woodward earlier this week to discuss a potential summer move. However, his representative has quickly brought speculation to an end – claiming no such meeting took place.
Benzema, who has scored 15 goals in 29 appearances this term, was expected to fall victim to the incoming regime of Rafa Benitez. It has been suggested that the former Liverpool manager would attempt to transform Cristiano Ronaldo into the Galacticos main centre-forward, leaving no place for his French team-mate.
However, with Marca claiming that the former Lyon striker has been given assurances of his place at the Bernabeu, Manchester United will now have to turn their attention elsewhere, with relatively few alternative options available. It is hard enough to come across a striker of Benzema’s guile, but there is no doubt Van Gaal will do his upmost to do just that.
