West Ham have received a boost as they look at trying to bring Jesse Lingard back to the London Stadium, with The Sun reporting that Manchester United are ready to sell him in January for just £10 million – unless they can entice Newcastle into the race.

Lingard looks set to be on the move after struggling for game-time at Old Trafford. Of course, he returned to Manchester off the back of an amazing loan spell with the Hammers.

However, he has not been on the pitch for longer than 25 minutes in any of their Premier League fixtures.

His contract expires next summer. And The Sun reports that he is stalling on penning fresh terms.

The report claims that Ole Gunnar Solskjaer’s men had wanted £25 million in the summer with West Ham keen to make his move permanent.

Now however, they will accept just £10 million. But The Sun also suggests that they hope to attract the attention of Newcastle in case their interest could drive the price up slightly.

Spending £10m on Lingard looks a no-brainer for West Ham

Obviously, West Ham should be wary of overpaying for Lingard. His contract is up in the summer. And it will take something special for the attacking midfielder to replicate the form he showed during his previous loan.

But West Ham have a fantastic opportunity this season. They find themselves just three points off the Premier League summit.

And with that, perhaps they should be prepared to pay a little more for Lingard than they would ideally like if necessary.
