Report: PL rival admits defeat in race for 'incredible' Spurs target, now he could follow Bissouma to N17
Tottenham Hotspur have just got their third summer signing over the line.
After landing Ivan Perisic and Fraser Forster, Spurs confirmed the signing of Yves Bissouma from Brighton.
And it doesn’t look as though Tottenham are finished just yet.
There was another player who looked like he could’ve been signing number 3 at Spurs before Bissouma.
That player is Middlesbrough full-back Djed Spence.
Although there haven’t been any major updates in the last few days, Tottenham still appear on track to sign him.
“Path open for Tottenham”
Now, one report has suggested that one of Spence’s other suitors have admitted defeat in the race to sign him.
Nottingham Forest, who had the 21-year-old on loan last season, were also hoping to land the Boro ace.
Scott Wilson of the Northern Echo wrote: “Forest appear to have admitted defeat in their pursuit of Djed Spence, leaving the path open for Tottenham to land the Middlesbrough defender.”
Further down in the article, he put: “There is a growing expectation that a move to Spurs will go through at some stage, with Forest seemingly have accepted that they are unlikely to be able to pull off a deal of their own.
“As a result, (Reds boss Steve) Cooper is already assessing alternative options, with a move for Arsenal full-back Ainsley Maitland-Niles understood to be in the pipeline.”
Also, Fabrizio Romano provided an update on Spence in the early hours of Friday morning.
He replied to a fan, while also appearing to criticise those who “insulted” him for downplaying reports that Spurs had struck a deal last week.
Romano said Tottenham had been concentrating on Bissouma first and foremost, and there have been talks with Spence’s agents.
However, Boro are reportedly still waiting for an official proposal from Spurs, he added.
Tottenham hoping to land “unbelievable” talent
Spence is a top talent and a player who could become a star for Tottenham if he joins.
The 21-year-old announced himself to a nationwide audience earlier this year when he helped knock Arsenal out of the FA Cup.
Gunners legend Ian Wright labelled his display against the north Londoners “unbelievable“.
Meanwhile, Michael Bridge told Last Word on Spurs: “Spence was incredible against Arsenal in the FA Cup.
“But Spurs have been looking at Spence for a lot longer than that.”
Now that Tottenham have signed Bissouma, hopefully Spence will be next in line to arrive at N17.
