The January transfer window is now open and already Liverpool have made their first signing.

The Reds have strengthened their forward line with the signing of PSV Eindhoven attacker Cody Gakpo.

A report from The Athletic has also delivered some exciting news about a potential summer deal.

Liverpool fans will be hoping Jurgen Klopp can get some new players in as quickly as possible after yesterday’s performance.

Brentford player them off the park and deservedly came away with a 3-1 win.

Klopp substituted Virgil van Dijk, Kostas Tsimikas and Harvey Elliott at half-time in a damning indictment of their performances.

The squad realistically needs investment throughout, and one position in particular has been identified.

England and Borussia Dortmund star Jude Bellingham has been touted as the potential saviour of Liverpool’s midfield.

And The Athletic’s report suggests that rivals Chelsea now think that Bellingham could join Liverpool soon.

It would be a huge coup, and potentially Liverpool’s most expensive ever transfer, but now looks like a vital signing.

Bellingham could join Liverpool soon

The Athletic’s story states that, ‘Bellingham’s future won’t be resolved until the summer and Chelsea are fully aware they face an uphill battle to sign him.

‘While they haven’t given up, there is a feeling within the club that Liverpool would be in pole position should the 19-year-old join a Premier League club at the end of this campaign.’

Chelsea have instead turned their attention to another Liverpool target, Enzo Fernandez.

Fabrizio Romano shared yesterday that Chelsea will try to close a deal for the Argentinian this week.

This looks set to boost Liverpool’s chances of Bellingham joining the club in the summer.

The ‘frightening’ midfielder showcased just how good he is at the World Cup.

The 19-year-old looks set to be the subject of one of the biggest transfer sagas of the summer.

It may be tough for Liverpool to convince Bellingham to sign if they don’t qualify for the Champions League this season.

Based on last night’s performance, they face a serious uphill battle to finish in the top four.
