According to Le10 Sport, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has told Arsenal he will sign a new contract but only if the club matches his ambitions in the transfer market.
The man who netted twice in Saturday win over Chelsea in the FA Cup Final has called on the club to attract stellar players and fancies linking up with Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.
It is thought that Aubameyang dreams of playing alongside the 23-year-old who has struggled to pose an impact at the Nou Camp.
Dembele cost Barcelona £135.5 million in 2017 but injuries and a lack of form have hampered his progress.
In 74 appearances for the Catalan giants, he has scored 19 goals and registered 17 assists, featuring on either the right or left flank.
The report does suggest that Dembele doesn’t want to leave Barcelona, although that decision could be taken out of his hands.
Both Lautaro Martinez and Neymar are wanted at Barcelona and to finance those deals they will need to shift some players first.
That could be music to the ears of Aubameyang who has called on Arsenal to spend big this summer.
There’s no evidence that the Gunners are even keen on Dembele’s services and boss Mikel Arteta might have other signings in the offing to help tempt Aubameyang into staying at Arsenal.
The Gabonese striker has been a revelation this season but is out of contract next summer.
Aubameyang has worn the captain’s armband under Arteta and his 29 goals this season have made him one of the country’s leading marksmen.
TBR View – Dembele could be ideal if the price is right
Spanish outlet Sport claimed in May that Barcelona would accept £37 million for the player paid £200,000-a-week.
Considering the staggering amount he cost, that could represent a big of a steal for Arsenal.
Dembele would have plenty to prove and the 23-year-old would be keen to kick start his career following a frustrating run at Barcelona.
Arteta has already worked pretty tirelessly to improve the quality of his players and as a result, he could be the perfect manager for the Frenchman.
With that in mind, the Gunners should perhaps pander to Aubemeyang’s request and help him fulfil a dream of playing alongside Dembele.
