Barcelona star Philippe Coutinho has asked Arsenal for more time to reconsider his future, according to Spanish outlet, Sport.

The 28-year-old is seriously considering a return to the Premier League, with a number of clubs keen.

Brendan Rodgers is keen to take him to Leicester, whilst Arsenal’s bitter rivals Tottenham fancy him too.

The Gunners will only be in Europe if they win the FA Cup at the weekend and that might hamper their chances of landing Coutinho.

Arsenal do have a decent relationship with Coutinho’s agent, Kia Joorabchian, however, and that could help a deal come to fruition.

The Brazilian has badly lost his way since leaving Liverpool in 2018. Last season he was out on loan at Bayern Munich but struggled to make an impression.

Coutinho arguably played his best football in England; scoring 54 goals and registering 45 assists in 201 appearances during his time at Anfield.

Although he would be a stunning signing, Coutinho would have to take a significant drop in wages from the £250,000-a-week he collects at Barcelona.

It was anticipated that money was originally stopping any potential deal, although the Brazil trickster is now thought to be giving it more consideration.

Typically a No.10, Coutinho could help Arsenal find a replacement for Mesut Ozil.

The German playmaker hasn’t featured since the restart and Arteta will know he needs to find another creative spark.

Coutinho can also play on the flanks and despite falling away in recent years, he’d still be seen as a coup for Arsenal.

TBR View – Arsenal should be patient with Coutinho

The Brazil international would be a class addition to Arteta’s ranks and signing him could push them on next season.

The club needs to move quickly with transfers ahead of a quick turnaround new signings will need time to settle.

Coutinho would be worth the wait though and it should be viewed as positive that he’s even willing to reconsider.

Arsenal would land a quality player in the ex-Liverpool star and Arteta could revive his career.
