Report: ‘Phenomenal’ Arsenal star could be back in squad today for Southampton clash
Arsenal defender Oleksandr Zinchenko could be back in the squad today for the game against Southampton, according to the Evening Standard.
Zinchenko has only made six appearances for the Gunners since making the switch from Manchester City over the summer.
The 25-year-old has been ruled out with a calf injury for the last four games after making an excellent start to his Arsenal career.
The Ukraine international’s last game for Mikel Arteta’s side came at the beginning of the month in the 3-1 win over Tottenham Hotspur.
But the ‘phenomenal’ Zinchenko could make a return to the squad today for the trip to St Mary’s.
Zinchenko could be back in Arsenal squad today
The Evening Standard reports that there is an outside chance Zinchenko could make the Arsenal squad today.
The full-back has been recovering from a calf injury that has troubled him over the past month.
It will be a huge boost for Arteta if the former City man returns to the team for today’s clash.
Zinchenko had been putting in some eye-catching displays from left-back but his start has been hindered by injuries.
The Ukrainian was struggling with a knee injury after his first three games and now a calf injury has held him back.
Takehiro Tomiyasu has performed brilliantly while filling in at left-back and put in a commanding display against Liverpool.
But Zinchenko offers more of an attacking threat down the left-hand side for Arsenal and Arteta will be keen to get him back to full fitness as soon as possible.
The Gunners will be hoping to keep up their brilliant start to the season against Ralph Hasenhuttl’s men today.
Arteta’s men have only lost one game this season and could open up a four point gap between themselves and City with a win on the south coast today.
