Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has impressed in training this pre-season, the London Evening Standard reports.
Catching the eye
Xhaka is set to sign a new contract at Arsenal, which seemed unlikely at the start of the summer.
It was widely expected that the Swiss midfielder would leave the Emirates Stadium to join Roma.
However, it now seems that Xhaka will be sticking around and signing a new deal with the Gunners.
Part of the reason for that is said to be because Xhaka has looked very good in training over pre-season.
Staying around
Despite the experienced midfielder’s future being under scrutiny, Xhaka has still caught the eye at London Colney.

And his impending decision to pen a new contract comes amid Arsenal’s other moves stalling.
Mikel Arteta’s side have been linked with a range of players this summer, but the Standard’s latest report suggests that no incoming additions are imminent.
That may be disappointing for many Arsenal fans, who were waiting to see an overhaul.
But Xhaka did prove his class at Euro 2020, where he was in outstanding form for Switzerland.
And if he carries those sort of showings into the club season then he could still be a vital part of Arsenal’s starting line-up again this term, especially as Arteta has called him ‘phenomenal’ before (Guardian).
