Report: 'Perfect' Tottenham player is leaving; new club expects him on Sunday for medical
Tottenham Hotspur defender Joe Rodon is closing in on a move to Rennes.
On Thursday, reports emerged claiming the Spurs ace was closing in on a loan move to the Ligue 1 club.
And on Friday, Fabrizio Romano claimed Tottenham and Rennes had reached full agreement over Rodon.
“Full agreement completed, Joe Rodon will join Rennes,” the transfer insider wrote on Twitter.
“Deal in place with Tottenham on loan with option to buy clause worth €20m (£17m), as revealed yesterday – just waiting to sign paperworks.
“All parties working on final details. Rodon follows Theate as new Rennes player.”
Now, Ouest France have provided a further update on the Wales international’s next steps before his move.
The French outlet – via Sport Witness – claims that Rodon is expected to arrive in Brittany this weekend for his medical.
His arrival is planned for Sunday, ‘probably’ following Rennes’ last pre-season friendly against Aston Villa on Saturday.
No-brainer for Rodon to leave Spurs – TBR View
Rodon joined Tottenham from Swansea in October 2020, but he has struggled for game time at N17.
To date, the £11million signing has made just 24 first-team appearances for Spurs.
Rodon has, however, remained in starting contention for the Wales national team.
The 24-year-old has 28 Dragons caps and helped his nation reach the World Cup.
Rodon played the full 90 minutes as Wales beat Ukraine 1-0 in their playoff final earlier this summer.
A move away is very much the best solution, as he stands to get first-team football and remain in contention for the Dragons at Qatar 2022.
“Works very hard”
Jose Mourinho rated Rodon highly, Chronicle Live quoting him as saying in March 2021: “He works very hard, good professional.
“He has to do nothing, he cannot play in the Europa League so that makes his chances reduced, in relation to the other guys.
“Centre-back is a position where of course if he was in the Europa League he would have lots of chances to play in these 11 matches that we did.
“There’s nothing. He’s perfect, works very hard, young guy, wants to learn, very enthusiastic.
“He played already matches that represent a lot, he played important matches against some of the best teams.
“He has just to wait for his opportunities and to get it.”
