Arsenal could have an advantage in their pursuit of Borussia Dortmund star, Julian Brandt, with the player said to have the same agent as youth supremo, Per Mertesacker.
That is according to the Sun, who claim that Brandt is already being discussed among Arsenal players, with scouts at the club apparently already making their presence known.
The report, which takes comments from respected Bild journalist, Christian Faulk, states that Arsenal are keen on Brandt but may have to wait until the summer to pursue any deal. However, it is believed the German is keen on the idea of living in London, while he also has close ties to the aforementioned Mertesacker.
Brandt, 24, has 35 caps for his country but has fallen down the pecking order somewhat at Dortmund this season after impressing last term.
He has completed 90 minutes just twice in the Bundesliga, while he’s yet to get on the scoresheet in league competition.
Arsenal need players, but Brandt’s form is worrying – TBR View
Of course, a player can sometimes need a fresh start and maybe that is what Brandt needs here. He could very well succeed in the red of Arsenal and give Mikel Arteta another fine attacking option.
However, his form is a worry. No goals is a big concern especially in a team like Dortmund and his lack of 90 minutes might suggest he’d need time to build in some match fitness.
A loan deal could work for the Gunners, though. It gives them a chance to assess Brandt fully before making any rash calls on whether to pay a chunk of money to sign him.
