Report: People at Tottenham think 23-year-old will play far more regularly for Nuno than Mourinho
There are now expectations within Tottenham Hotspur that Nuno will make more use of Joe Rodon next season, Football London say.
Rodon signed for Spurs late on in the summer transfer window from Swansea City, and he impressed in his first season at the North London club.
However, both Jose Mourinho and, particularly, Ryan Mason were not totally convinced by the Welshman.
While Rodon did feature under Mourinho he was never a regular starter in Tottenham’s team, and he completely lost his place after Mason came in.
Many Spurs fans questioned why Mason did not show more willingness to use Rodon, given the side’s defensive issues.
And the 23-year-old has gone on to prove his class with Wales this summer at Euro 2020.
With Nuno likely to use a system which incorporates three central defenders, Rodon’s first-team chances may actually increase with the Portuguese boss’s arrival.
And Tottenham insiders are said to believe that Rodon will be given more minutes next term.
Good plan from Nuno
That looks like a sensible move for Spurs, as the defender shows plenty of promise.
Rodon is a passionate player, but to label him purely as an old-school defender would not fully highlight his talents.
Rodon is also comfortable in possession and he appears to be worth giving a run of games to, especially with Tottenham’s other options in the position looking far from convincing.
